Getting technical
GOAL-SCORING #2: Hockey is a sport that requires quick reflexes, fast stick handling and wide peripheral vision, while continuously coordinating one’s body to be in the best possible position. When it comes to goal-scoring the physical space and amount of time one has to bring all the technical details into a coherent movement, is extremely small.
With visualization I practiced seeing all the technical details come together in different scenarios. Examples included: where my hands were positioned on my stick; which leg would be leading when taking a shot on goal; what angle of my stick was best for a low or high deflection; how my body weight needed to be distributed; how to lock my wrists in a certain way for maximum ball impact; which direction should the ball be placed for the best shot; when was the moment to quickly look to see where the goalie was standing; etcetera.
This type of visualization required me to zoom in to each detail until I could imagine and feel them effortlessly taking place. Even now, as I write this post, I can easily once again feel these details in my body, as if they are a part of my muscle memory. Practising visualization elevated my technical abilities so that I could maximize my opportunities to score goals.
Visualization is a proven method of enhancing any kind of physical activity. I would love to help you discover the ways visualization can give you a physical boost. Contact me if you are interested.
